For Couples, Families, Maternity & Solo Sessions

Looking for the perfect spot for your photo session in Honolulu without having to travel far from Waikīkī? Here are some of my favorite shoot locations that offer gorgeous backdrops—from beaches and parks to secret waterfalls—all within a short drive of the city.

Kahala Beach / Kahala Resort Area

Just a short drive from Waikīkī, Kahala Beach is peaceful, upscale, and known for its palm tree-lined shore and calm waters. Perfect for couples or maternity sessions looking for a more secluded, romantic beach vibe.

Fort DeRussy Beach Park – Waikīkī

Right in the heart of Waikīkī, this spot is super convenient if you’re staying nearby and don’t want to travel far. Mornings before 9 AM are best for soft light and fewer crowds. Think Diamond Head back drop, tall palms, golden sand, and an easy tropical vibe—great for couples or quick family shoots.

Duke’s Lagoon

Near the Hilton Hawaiian Village, this man-made lagoon offers calm waters, palm trees, and colorful sunrises/sunsets. It’s a family-friendly, Waikīkī-based spot with plenty of open space—especially great for kids or laid-back portraits. I highly recommend shooting here at sunrise.

Magic Island – Ala Moana Beach Park

A local favorite near Ala Moana, Magic Island offers picture-perfect sunset views with the Waikīkī skyline in the background. You’ll get a mix of grassy park areas, rocky shoreline, and calm ocean water. Great for families, couples, or solo portraits—especially around golden hour.

Queen’s Beach – Waikīkī

Located on the quieter end of Waikīkī near Kapiʻolani Park, Queen’s Beach gives you a dreamy view of Diamond Head with a blend of sand and lava rock. It’s ideal for sunrise sessions, couples, or solo portraits with a golden, peaceful vibe.

Kapiʻolani Park

Lush greenery, open space, and the dramatic backdrop of Diamond Head—this park is a local favorite for good reason. Great for families or anyone wanting nature-meets-island feels without going too far from the beach.

Tantalus Lookout (Puʻu ʻUalakaʻa State Park)

If you’re dreaming of sweeping city views, mountains, and sunset light pouring through the trees, Tantalus is the spot. Just a short drive uphill from Honolulu, this lush forest lookout offers cooler air and dreamy golden-hour light. It’s perfect for engagements, maternity sessions, or anyone wanting a romantic, elevated view of Oʻahu.

Liliʻuokalani Botanical Garden

Want a waterfall without the hike? This small, peaceful garden is a hidden oasis in the city. Featuring lush greenery and a natural waterfall, it’s perfect for maternity sessions or anyone craving a jungle-like backdrop without leaving town.

Foster Botanical Gardens

Just outside downtown Honolulu, easy to access from Waikiki. Lush tropical vibes without needing a hike. Towering trees, rare orchids, palms, and blooming gardens. Peaceful, not as crowded as beaches or touristy areas. Great lighting under tree canopies. Best time to shoot 9–11am for soft light and cooler temps, closes at 4pm. $5/person to enter.
